Why install a Backup Generator and UPS systems

A unexpected power outage can be catastrophic in a office or industrial setting causing corruption of files and complete data loss do to improper shut down of computer and server systems. To sever injury to people or equipment do to equipment improperly shutting down or starting back up when power is restored. These problems can be completely removed with the installation and integration of Backup power generators coupled with a UPS system. These systems can can completely relieve the stress on office and facility managers in the case of a power outage. Small’s Electrical Services to have one of our representatives meet with you and assist in the design and installation of a contingency system to suite your power needs.

Natural Gas Standby Generator

Smalls Electric supplies only the best and most reliable backup generators in the industry and that’s why we are a supplier of Kholer Generators. Kholer is one of the top selling generator brands in North America and has some the most powerful and longest lasting backup generators available. With unmatched reliability and quality of materials it’s no wonder the Kholer name has lasted so long in the industry. But they don’t just outperform their competitors in performance and reliability, but they also trust in the reliability of their generators so much they offer  one the highest warranty policies of any of the standby generator manufacturers on the market as well, just so you can be assured your equipment will run seamlessly when called upon.

Our standby generators continually monitor your office or facilities connection to the local electrical utility grid. Continuous monitoring of the utility grid ensures when a loss of power is detected the system will automatically start your generator and supply you with electricity from your generator until local power is restored. Once power from the local utility is restored your generator system will automatically shut your generator off and switch your power back to the grid seamlessly without you even moving or noticing. All models have capabilities of fully automatic transferring and remote monitoring of their generator. Property owners can obtain levels of power suitable for running everything from specific applications, such as sump pumps and refrigerators, to an entire home or small office building.

HD Portable Generator Backup Power

We realize that sometimes our clients may not require the amount of power generated by a standby system, or may not have access to natural gas systems. We at Small’s Electric also have the capabilities of providing HD backup power capabilities with a smaller portable generator unit. These types of systems offer a wide variety of voltages up to 600V 3 phase power and wide range load capabilities but require manual start up of the system. Although the power supplied is typically less than a standby unit and considered as supplying not as clean of a power signal, ( integrating power filters can mitigate this problem) the total cost of the system is drastically lower and provides flexibility of mobility and general comfort and safety knowing your staff will not be left in the dark.

UPS Power Systems

What is UPS: UPS stands for Uninterruptible Power Supply, and is used to supply power to critical loads such as computers, servers, and other electronic devices that may cause data loss if complete power is lost. These UPS systems are a very important part of a home or office electrical system and can greatly ease the stress of a home or business owner in the case of a complete power outages situation

How does a UPS system work: A UPS system is essentially a battery bank with a monitoring system that continually charges and stores energy while monitoring the status of the utility power. In the case of a brown out or complete loss of power the device will automatically within a fraction of a second of the power loss, will automatically begin powering whatever is connected to it with electricity stored in the UPS battery. Once utility power is restored it will automatically switch back to utility power and begin charging the batteries once again.

Why will this benefit me: UPS systems have many benefits it provides to the user. First as stated above the UPS provides continuous power monitoring and can detect the presence of irregular voltages such as power spikes and sages and can correct these power issues before they are applied to your electrical components and cause potential damage. In the case of a power outage, a UPS system can prevent data loss or corruption due to improper shutdown of a computer or computer system. A UPS can also provide either enough power to allow for the time for the proper shutdown of electrical devices such as computers and servers, or in larger applications can provide total power for these devices to continue running while the utility power has been completely lost or until back up generation power can be supplied. Lastly versatility, there are many different types of UPS systems offered today with options ranging from low cost home options, to highly integrated systems for complete office and commercial protection.
